What’s In Our Jump Bag? (Fall Edition)

When people see our EMTs at an event, they often notice the radio, uniform, or first aid tent—but one of the most important pieces of equipment never leaves our side: the jump bag.

A jump bag is designed to help EMTs respond quickly to a wide variety of medical emergencies. While every event is different, our bags are carefully stocked so we’re prepared to handle everything from minor first aid to life-threatening situations.

Here’s a look inside.

Airway & Breathing Equipment

When someone is having trouble breathing, every second counts. Our jump bags include equipment to help us assess and manage respiratory emergencies while awaiting additional resources if needed.

Depending on the event and level of staffing, this may include:

  • Bag-valve mask (BVM)
  • Airway adjuncts
  • Pulse oximeter
  • Suction supplies
  • Oxygen administration equipment

Bleeding & Wound Care

From scraped knees at pumpkin patches to cuts during event setup, wound care is one of the most common reasons guests visit our medical team.

Our bags are stocked with items such as:

  • Sterile gauze
  • Trauma dressings
  • Roller bandages
  • Elastic wraps
  • Adhesive bandages
  • Tourniquets
  • Medical tape

Assessment Tools

Before providing treatment, we need to understand what’s happening.

Every jump bag includes equipment to perform a thorough patient assessment, including:

  • Blood pressure cuff
  • Stethoscope
  • Penlight
  • Thermometer
  • Blood glucose monitor
  • Trauma shears

Emergency Medications

Following local protocols and event-specific medical direction, our teams may carry medications commonly used to treat certain emergencies, including:

  • Aspirin
  • Oral glucose
  • Naloxone (Narcan)
  • Epinephrine auto-injectors (when applicable)
  • Albuterol (when authorized)

Medication availability varies depending on local regulations, medical direction, and the level of provider staffing.

Fall-Specific Supplies

As we move into fall, our teams also prepare for seasonal events like harvest festivals, pumpkin patches, Oktoberfests, and outdoor races.

That means paying extra attention to supplies commonly used during autumn events, including:

  • Instant cold packs
  • Splints for slips and falls
  • Extra hydration supplies
  • Blankets for chilly mornings and evenings
  • PPE for busy community events

Prepared for Whatever the Day Brings

No one hopes to need an EMT during a day at the pumpkin patch or community festival—but when something unexpected happens, having the right equipment within arm’s reach makes all the difference.

Our jump bags are inspected, restocked, and event-ready before every shift because preparation is one of the best tools we carry.

Whether we’re staffing a concert, charity race, corporate event, harvest festival, or pumpkin patch, our goal is always the same: provide professional, timely care when it’s needed most.
