Whether you’re attending a concert, festival, race, pumpkin patch, or community event, emergencies can happen when you least expect them. Knowing when to call 911—and when to seek help from the on-site medical team—can make a significant difference in how quickly someone receives care.
If you’re attending an event with on-site EMTs, don’t hesitate to ask for help. That’s exactly why we’re there.
Call 911 Immediately If Someone Is…
Certain situations should always be treated as medical emergencies. Call 911 immediately if someone is:
- Unconscious or difficult to wake
- Not breathing or struggling to breathe
- Having chest pain or signs of a heart attack
- Experiencing stroke symptoms (face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty)
- Having a seizure that won’t stop or repeated seizures
- Bleeding heavily and the bleeding can’t be controlled
- Showing signs of a severe allergic reaction, including difficulty breathing or swelling of the face and throat
- Suffering a serious fall or traumatic injury
- Unresponsive after a head injury
If on-site EMTs are available, notify them immediately as well. They can begin treatment while local EMS is responding.
When Should You Visit the Medical Tent?
Not every injury requires an ambulance, but many still deserve medical attention.
Visit the on-site medical team if you experience:
- Minor cuts or scrapes
- Sprains or minor injuries
- Heat exhaustion
- Dehydration
- Dizziness
- Bee stings or mild allergic reactions
- Blisters
- General illness or feeling unwell
Our EMTs can assess your condition, provide first aid when appropriate, and help determine whether additional medical care is necessary.
If You’re Not Sure—Ask
One of the biggest mistakes attendees make is waiting too long to seek help.
If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always better to check in with the medical team. Many medical emergencies begin with symptoms that seem minor but can quickly become more serious if left untreated.
We’d much rather evaluate a concern that turns out to be minor than have someone delay getting the care they need.
Help Us Help You
If you need medical assistance at an event:
- Stay calm.
- Tell the nearest event staff member or security officer.
- If you know where the medical tent is, head there if it’s safe to do so.
- If the patient cannot safely move, stay with them and send someone to notify the medical team.
- Follow instructions from event staff, EMTs, or emergency responders.
The sooner we’re notified, the sooner we can help.
